Loch Ken is a wonderful low-land loch in Dumfries and Galloway.
The loch is basically a wide section of the Water of Ken and this is seen from fish finder with a deeper channel running down the middle of the loch.
The loch is 9 miles long and contains monster pike and perch along with roach, bream, trout and hybrids, if you are may even find an elusive chub as I did.
Drop shotted lob worm works very well for the perch, a 3 pounder is not a rarity.
For the pike trolled lures work well or popped up dead baits. Don't let the deads sit on the bottom or the plague of Red Signal Crayfish will polish it off in minutes. Also be aware that throughout Scotland live baiting is banned.
There are various launch points and license can be purchased locally.
One great place to stay is Loch Ken Holiday Park .
A very clean and friendly site that has some good loch side caravans and a large camping field.
The park also hosts a major kayak fishing event each Autumn.
